The student can explain the concepts and legislative requirements for zero energy buildings and positive energy districts. The student will be able to calculate energy needs of buildings, understand the impact of building age and building materials, U-values. The student can apply the psychometric chart and able to size and select suitable heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technologies for different climate zones. The student can also apply energy modelling tools and is able to size building-integrated renewable energy technologies, such as solar panels and ground-source heat pump. The student will also gain understanding of the requirements of energy efficiency in cities, and perform energy audits, recommend strategies for energy efficiency renovation, as well as evaluate the connection of energy efficiency with land use planning and zoning. The student can also calculate opportunities for sector integration, and gain understanding of the energy potential and needs of different urban sectors such as waste management, water and wastewater services and urban mobility. The student will learn how to draw plans for the energy transition of cities including prioritization and timing of actions contributing to a sustainable energy future.

The grade is based on the points received from the learning tasks. Elective tasks. There is a minimum number of tasks to be completed (10 out of 14), and some tasks are compulsory.
