Special Education and the Course of Life (OPEN UNI)

Prerequisites and co-requisites: None A basic course in special education (5 credits) is recommended to be taken before this course.

After completing the course, the student knows how to

• reflect on their own experiences, emotions and attitude towards diversity
• name the service systems of Finland and values, meanings and paradigms behind them
• name qualities of an accessible, barrier-free society
• reflect on the significance of family and close relatives in collaborating with professionals
• is able to communicate clearly in a group, is able to actively listen to others and give constructive feedback

Independent studies in online environment

1. Choose either a work of fiction or an autobiographical work. The chosen work must address disability or special needs and their effects on the life of the individual and/or their close ones.
