Online citizen science (OPEN UNI)
The growing use of openly available digital data has raised a need to tackle the ethical principles in the use of data concerning Indigenous peoples and other minorities. Especially when the public is creating the data through crowdsourcing and citizen science, there is a need for training and guidelines on how to collect and present data. According to the Cambridge Online Dictionary, citizen science is something done by ‘ordinary people, often for or with the help of scientists’. Hence citizen scientists are amateurs or non-professionals.
The online course “Online Citizen Science: Ethics and Minorities Involvement” tackles relevant and timely questions on how participants in digital citizen science should be schooled and guided when they collect and use data involving minority groups and children.
