Elementary Course in French I (OPEN UNI), The Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia

Required proficiency level No requirements. The course is meant for student with no previous studies of French.

Upon completion of the course the student will

• be able to talk about themselves and manage in basic everyday situations,
• be able to ask simple questions and give short answers,
• know the most common greetings and courtesy phrases,
• be able to ask their discussion partners to slow down their speech or to repeat,
• be able to understand slow and clear speech about everyday topics in familiar and predictable everyday situations,
• be able to pronounce French understandably.

Mode of delivery Online (Zoom). 52 hours of lectures and independent work (completion of agreed assignments).

Regular and active participation online, and final exam. Read more about assessment criteria at the University of Oulu webpage.

Successful completion of the course is assessed on the scale of 1-5. If the student so wishes, they may receive the grade "Pass" instead of a numeric grade.
