This course provides students an exposure to the skills necessary to manage an organization in today’s rapidly changing market environment. The course will explore the general history and theory of the field of management and best Management Practices in business fields in Nordics After reviewing the theories and foundations of the management field, students will investigate and discuss the changes and challenges in today’s Nordic business. A variety of crucial management skills will be addressed in dialog with senior managers in different companies and organizations. Generic Skills and Competences After completing the course, students will have developed key generic skills aligned with the University of Oulu framework. In particular, the course strengthens analytical, critical, and creative thinking, enabling students to critically evaluate knowledge in their own field and apply it to the analysis of complex and unpredictable global challenges. Students will enhance their ability to recognize cultural diversity, question stereotypes, and act openly in international and multicultural contexts. The course also develops sustainability competence, including understanding the social, ecological, economic, and cultural dimensions of sustainability, as well as the role of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, students will strengthen their communication, interaction, and digital skills, including clear oral and written communication to diverse audiences, constructive collaboration and feedback, and the appropriate, safe, and responsible use of digital and AI applications relevant to their studies.

1-5/FAIL Assessment will be at two stages. The first part consists of a group works and an individual exam and will determine 50% of the grade. The second part consists of a group assignments and /or a reflection and will determine 50% of the grade. The assessment of the course unit is based on the learning outcomes of the course unit.
