Basics in eHealth (OPEN UNI)

There are no special requirements for the required background information.

Upon completion of the course:

• The student is able to describe key information and communication technology (ICT) terms and solutions used in healthcare, and identify corresponding applications in healthcare services and education.
• The student is able to critically evaluate digital health information, technologies and research evidence (e.g. their societal and economic significance).
• The student understands the role of digital health services and telemedicine solutions as part of the national healthcare information system.
• The student gains an initial understanding of future trends in healthcare ICT from the perspective of patient care, and is able to apply this understanding in practical environments.
• The student is able to communicate clearly and purposefully in digital learning and working environments, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
• The student learns to identify digital and AI applications relevant to their field and to use them appropriately, safely and responsibly in their studies.

All recommended and required reading is available in the course Moodle virtual learning environment or through updated web pages linked there.

The course is delivered entirely through web-based teaching. Students complete the course independently in the Moodle virtual learning environment. Course materials include recorded video lectures, PowerPoint presentations, discussion forums, and links to supplementary online resources. Assessment consists of various interactive online assignments and multiple-choice examinations based on the lecture content.

To complete the course, students watch video lectures, take part in activating online tasks to practice the course themes, and complete multiple-choice exams.

Target group Anyone interested in gaining a basic understanding of e‑health, telemedicine, and patient record systems within the current healthcare delivery system. The course provides additional knowledge for those already working in healthcare, but it is also aimed at individuals from industry and other sectors of society who are interested in collaboration within digital health environments.
