A Basic Understanding of Blockchain in Business MOOC (OPEN UNI)
This course reveals to the participant how blockchains operate. The course leads the student to understand the very basics of blockchain technology and the applications we have now and will have potentially in the future around the technology.
The course contents are structured in an introduction part and in three modules in which students will learn and test their knowledge of blockchain technologies.
- The first module focuses on the basic concepts of blockchain and defines what blockchain is.
- The second module focuses on how blockchain can be used in sustainable business practices, what kind of applications firms can have for blockchain, and how it works in stakeholder capitalism environments.
- The third module delves into cryptocurrencies and different kinds of tokens that are created or supported by blockchain. Passing these modules will grant the student a passing grade from the course. The course ends in an optional final exam on which the student may try to improve their grade on the course.
During the course the student will be guided by the course’s helper called Block – the helpful tip-dog. Block will assist the student in quizzes, give summaries of lessons and give feedback to the students about their accomplishments in the course. Block will also provide every single module and lesson as AI voice read chapters for students. Every lesson is listenable wherever the student wishes to listen to it.

The course objective is to provide participants with foundational knowledge of blockchain technology and its potential applications in promoting sustainable business practices. The course takes a dive into what actually is a blockchain and how they operate in different situations. This course will teach you how security, exchange and data controlling is linked to blockchains and how trust between parties works in blockchain technologies. In the course student will also learn about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Altcoins, and how they shape the monetary world as a decentralized ways of payment and exchange.
